Getting Started

Welcome! Lutherans For Life is thrilled that you have taken the first step towards starting a Life Team!  Thank you for being a Gospel-motivated voice For Life.

Who should go through training?

Tool 1 - Life Team Introduction and Roadmap (for anyone who wants basic info about starting a Life Team)
  • Tool 1 is meant for anyone who wants to learn more about starting a Life Team within his or her congregation. It provides basic information and a clear explanation of the six steps of the Roadmap to starting the Life Team (see back for Roadmap).

Tool 2 - Life Team Leader Training (for the Life Team Leader ONLY)
The second step in starting a Life Team is identifying a Life Team Leader.  Once that Leader has been identified, she or he will work through Tool 2.

Tool 3 - Life Team 101 (for all members of the Life Team)
After committed Life Team Members are identified, they complete Tool 3 together, as a Life Team.

Tool 4 - Resources (for Life Team Leader)
There is no field manual for Tool 4.  It simply consists of many helpful resources for the Life Team Leader to use (e.g., Life Team Meeting Agenda, Life Team Member Job Description, "What is a Life Team Video," etc.)

Important Note:

Each field manual (Tools 1-3) has been designed to be completed as the video instructor guides you through each module.   As you proceed through the course, there will be one video and its corresponding field manual per module.

Dr. Barb Geistfeld

Volunteer Relations Associate

Dr. Barbara Lane Geistfeld, LFL Volunteer Relations Associate and her husband, Dr. James Geistfeld, are “Texans by Choice” after retiring to the Hill Country in 2008. Barb retired from owning a small-animal veterinary hospital and Jim retired from his job as a board-certified laboratory animal veterinarian for Taconic Biosciences. They have a son and daughter-in-law, a daughter and son-in-law, and FOUR adorable granddaughters. She has taught teen and adult Bible Studies for many years and has been a voice for life in the various churches she has attended. Raised in the First Church of God (Anderson, IN), confirmed by faith into the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod (LCMS), active in an Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) congregation in New York, and now a member of a Christ-centered Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ (LCMC) congregation. Barb believes these different churches have shaped her faith and reaffirmed her profound desire to be a voice For Life. She values life at all stages and ages and wants to share that commitment to life with others. Barb accepted the position of Lutherans For Life Regional Director of Texas in July of 2015, and in those seven years has given LFL presentations to Lutheran churches, schools, and conferences all over Texas. She is a certified Life Team Leader at the church she attends. Barb believes her medical background and her conviction that we are to be “Gospel-motivated voices For Life” equips her to help others become gospel-motivated voices For Life in Texas. Now that she is the Assistant Director of Volunteer Relations, her ministry has expanded beyond Texas to offer support and encouragement to anyone wanting to become a gospel-motivated voice For Life.
